Social bookmarking is del.icio.us

Social bookmarking. OK. Now I get it. I understood it before but now, I really get it. And what prompted this eureka! moment? I started using it. Then, I got it. Simple as that.

I began by using Dogear (on w3, our work intranet), a component of IBM Lotus Connections, primarily because I was in need of a single place to collate all my bookmarks. I’d also noticed that other users’ Dogear searches are displayed when searching w3 and they seem to be very accurate to my search requirements.

Bingo, two good reasons to use social bookmarking: Centralisation and sharing of my bookmarks.

About a year ago I registered with del.icio.us but did very little with it. Now that I’ve found Dogear, for work, I’ve also been back to my del.icio.us account, for my non-work bookmarks. I’ve added a few. There’ll be more added soon.

I’ve tweaked the AJAX search box of this theme to include my del.icio.us tags.
